A Newly Proposed Method for Hydrogen Storage in a Metal Hydride Storage Tank Intended for Maritime and Inland Shipping

The utilisation of hydrogen in ships has important potential terms achieving the decarbonisation waterway transport, which produces approximately 3% world’s total emissions. However, drives maritime and inland shipping is conditioned by efficient safe storage as an energy carrier on ship decks. Regardless type, constructional design purpose aforesaid vessels, preferred method for currently high-pressure storage, with operating pressure fuel tanks amounting to tens MPa. Alternative methods include storing its liquid form, or hydrides adsorbed reformed fuels. In present article, a metal discussed, particularly certified low-pressure hydride tank—the MNTZV-159. article also analyses 2D heat conduction transversal cross-section MNTZV-159 tank, creating final shape exchanger (intensifier) that will help shorten time absorption into alloy, i.e., filling process. Based performed 3D calculations conduction, optimisation implementation intensifier internal volume alloy increase performance efficiency shell tank. optimised increased cooling power 46.1%, shortened refuelling 41% 2351 s. During time, system, comprised newly designed transfer intensifier, was capable eliminating from surface thus preventing above allowable value 30 bar.
